I Finally Made My Logo… After 10 Years

When your logo takes a decade to arrive…

Yup, you read that right, I haven’t had a logo for over 10 YEARS! And trust me I’ve tried but the stress around it would always stop me. I would feel so much pressure even thinking about my logo. I’ve made so many styles in the past but never moved forward on any of them. I even did a business trade where I made my friend's logo then she would make different options for me but I just never liked any of them.

I think for a while I just told myself I don’t really need one, and the truth is I didn’t in the past. I was already working a full time job and just doing some freelance work on the side. But now…..I am not working AND I’m making the transition from graphic designer to illustrator and I REALLY wanted this logo to represent that.

It’s kind of crazy how obvious the logo should have been though this is what I had written on all of my past illustrations so it was kind of always in my face. I think as a graphic designer I always told myself it needed to look pixel perfect with perfect shapes and lines like it was made in illustrator. But after doing research and delving into portfolios of illustrators I truly admire I realized the cute hand drawn look worked perfectly for illustration
Some inspiration logos

My past illustrations signing my name
I’ve added a few of my past illustrations as well as a zoomed in area where I would sign my name on all of them and this was always the feeling I wanted in my logo but I just never made the time to draw it out.

Figuring out the final piece

So as you can see the script style fits so well already with everything I have been doing BUT I wanted to add more and this was the final touch that really was the icing on the cake. I tried to think about what makes me….me. After thinking about it I always knew I wanted to have an eye in my logo. To me an eye is so special because I am such a visual person and I see everything with my eyes, it's a feeling of wanderlust, of curiosity, of learning. I even had a painting of an eye above my desk for inspiration which represents “I am the universe experiencing itself”. Whenever I see this eye it gives me hope to continue learning and growing as an artist and human.

Another funny thing is as a little girl I would always draw this eyeball. I would even sign my name and have the eye when I wrote cards to people.
Color palette
Now for the color palette it was kind of easy, I literally just looked at my illustrations, even just going on my instagram there was a common color theme showing. So I pulled colors from my new illustrated book as well as past illustrations and I feel like these colors just represent me so well. It's this dreamy wanderlust feeling that I hope I can bring into more of my art pieces as I delve into this new world of illustration.

Final Thoughts
Anyways I truly hope this inspires you and just so you know I am planning on releasing my first ever children's book in November, If you would like to follow along feel free to subscribe below where I’ll be sharing even more about becoming a freelance illustrator as well as releasing my first ever book.
